Our World, Second Star is a program for our community that is based on one-on-one interactions & activism. Activities stem from Chelsea Clinton’s 2015 book It’s Your World: Get Informed, Get Inspired & Get Going, which is available at SSTTR. We coordinate ongoing community involvement so check with us frequently for opportunities to be involved.

The past few months have been full of change for our country and our community.  We are happy to be a place of refuge where all people feel safe, welcomed, and loved.  We always want to hear how we can be a more welcoming place to all.  Let’s keep working together to support each other in this emotional time.

February will be Kindness Month at Second Star to the Children’s Bookstore. In conjunction with Random Act of Kindness day on February 17, we will be celebrating ways that we can all be kinder to one another and share positivity in our community. Kindness month will begin with a special drop-in event on Friday, February 3 and continue throughout the month with special events, story times and random acts of kindness. It doesn’t take much to put a smile on a friend, neighbor or even a stranger’s face and we hope you we all join us in bringing more kindness in to Our World. Check back regularly for all of the Kindness Month activities.

We love that children’s books can take us to NEW and IMAGINARY worlds. But sometimes they directly reflect the very real world in which we live. If you are looking for a way to talk to your child about refugees or other current events, we would love to help! We highly recommend The Journey by Francesca Sanna.

We are also celebrating Black History Month at Second Star! We recommend a newly published picture book — The Youngest Marcher: The Story of Audrey Faye Hendricks, a Young Civil Rights Activist. This book reminds us that you’re never too little to make a difference!
These books and many other thoughtfully curated books on these topics are available at our store. We are very proud of these books! Be sure to ask a bookseller for a recommendation the next time you stop in!
