Media Exploration and Illustration Workshop
with professional illustrator Karen Windness


Karen Windness is an illustrator mentor, college instructor, and award-winning artist. Her paintings and illustrations have been featured in over 50 gallery exhibitions. She studied illustration at the Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design (RMCAD) and was a valedictorian graduate in 2002. She now teaches illustration at RMCAD and has been published as both a writer and illustrator. In addition, Karen is the Illustrator Coordinator for the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) which serves all of Colorado and Wyoming. Young artists ages 11-14 years of age

July 11, 13,18,20,25, 27 with an artists’ showcase on the evening of July 29th

WHAT:  Do you want to be an illustrator? Illustration covers a lot of areas, from children’s picture books to comic books and graphic novels, and even big screen movie animation! In this 3-week course, middle school age artists will have the unique opportunity to work closely with college illustration instructor and published writer-illustrator Karen Windness. Each student will identify an area of interest and learn the fundamentals of being an illustrator – everything from character and environmental design to completing a finished illustration worthy of display.

COST:  $190 six-week course fee + $20 materials fee = $210 (includes an autographed book!)
